On June 13, Anhui University of Technology (AHUT) held a ceremony appointing Dr.Li Dongyang, fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering and European Academy of Sciences and Arts, as distinguished professor of Materials Science at AHUT.

Dr. Li is a Professor at Dept. of Chemical & Materials Eng., University of Alberta. His interests of research include surfaces and interfaces, wear and corrosion-wear synergy, electron work function - based methodologies for materials design and analysis, and computational materials science.The material discipline is the dominant discipline in AHUT and the peak discipline in Anhui Province, and the school attaches great importance to the construction of disciplinary platforms, which have been approved by the International Standards Sub-Committee, the Key laboratory of the Ministry of Education and other important platforms, and the laboratory has achieved a series of innovative research results and cultivated a group of outstanding talents.

Before the appointment ceremony, Lu Lin, secretary of the Party Committee of the University, met with Dr. Li and expressed warm welcome and sincere gratitude to him for being accepting the invitation of joining AHUT. Lu thanked Dr. Li for his long-term support and help for the development of the material peak discipline of AHUT. President Wei Xianwen expressed his hope that Dr. Li could play an important role in the promoting the development of disciplines, students education, research team and platform building, as well as academic exchanges, and strengthening international cooperation to produce more high-quality innovation results.

After the appointment ceremony, Dr. Li made an academic report entitled "Exploring the application of electronic work function as a 'gene parameter' in structural/wear-resistant material design", and had exchanges with teachers and students.
