On the afternoon of October 12, the opening ceremony for Anhui University of Technology (AHUT) 2020 international students was held at Xiushan campus. Vice President, Gu Mingyan, attended and delivered a keynote speech. Leaders from School of Postgraduate Education, Administration Office of Teaching Affairs and representatives of teaching staff and international students attended the ceremony. Dr. Shangui Hu, Dean of School of International Education (SIE) presided over the ceremony.
On behalf of the university, Vice President Gu Mingyan warmly welcomed 70 new international students and introduced the development of the school in the past 60 years. Saying that even though the time for students to step in the campus has been delayed because of the COVID-19, she stressed no effort should be spared to study and seek knowledge. She suggested that 2020 international students, as new members of the family of AHUT, adapt to the new environment as soon as possible, learn more about the Chinese language, get familiar with Chinese culture, and strive to become international talents with excellent professional knowledge and strong cross-cultural communication ability. At the end of the speech, Vice President Gu encouraged international students to be afriendly ambassador of cultural exchanges between China and countries around the world and make their contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
On behalf of faculty members, Ms Sheng Laping delivered a speech.She hoped that the freshmen of international studentscould constantly challenge themselves on the way of seeking knowledge, keep pace with the times, constantly improve their Chinese, have a more comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture, and strive to become a bridge of friendship between China andforeign countries.
As a representativeof senior students, HOSSAIN MD SHAMIM from Bangladesh majoring in International Trade, shared his experience of study and life in China. He also expressed his gratitude to all faculty members of SIE for their efforts in safeguarding the health and safety of international students on campus during the epidemic.Li Wen from Uzbekistan gave a speech on behalf of the freshmen. He said that he is full of expectation for the upcoming university life and is determined to learn Chinese culture and professional knowledgewell, integrate into the university as soon as possible, and strive to become an excellent student in the period of time of regular epidemic prevention and control.
In addition, the opening ceremony was recorded and broadcast online for International students who haven’t been on campus to share this important moment. The leaders attending the ceremony awarded certifications to international students who have won the Study-in-AnhuiScholarship, Study-at-AHUT Scholarship and the Outstanding Students Leadership.Up to now, nearly 300 international students of AHUT have not come back to China yet because of COVID-19. With all efforts made by the relevant departments and teachers, the online learning activities have been organized successfully.
