“Live for thepeople, die for the people.”
Lei Feng was a soldier of the People’s Liberation Army in the People’s Republic of China. Always lending a hand to those in need, Lei Feng is more than just a name in China. He is hailed as a cultural icon, symbolizing selflessness, modesty, and dedication.
In the post humous “Learn from Comrade Lei Feng” campaign, initiated by Mao in 1963, Lei became the symbol of nationwide propaganda; the youth of the country have been encouragedto follow his example. (fromhttp://english.cntv.cn/special/chinastrength/20120301/117741.shtml)
“We are young volunteers, building a cozy shared home with ourconcerted effort; we are young volunteers, making the flag with our loving heart...”On March 5, the opening ceremony of our “Learn-from-Lei Feng” Act was initiatedin the front of the Students Center on Xiushan campus. Heads of Student Affairs Office and the Youth League Committee, teachers and undergraduate volunteers from all departments participated in the ceremony and act.
After the brief ceremony, almost a thousand volunteers kicked off the beautifying campus act. With brooms, dustpans and other cleaning tools, the students cleaned every corner of the campus, including outdated posters,litters, and other wastes. The chilliness of early spring could not stop their vigor and enthusiasm which infected many other students to join them.
Li Weilong, Chairman of the University Volunteers’ Association said:“The value of volunteering and contributing is immeasurable. We wish to pass onthe positive energy to more people through our action.” Wang Zhiying, a student member of Campus servers Mission said: “This activity not only makes our campuslook nicer, but also gives the students a chance to experience the happiness brought by it.”
This act aims to encourage the youth to be followers and promoters of Lei Feng spirit in the new era.
