Vice President Leads Delegation to Spain, Signs MOUs with Two Universities

From July 12 to 15,Vice President Zheng Xiao led a delegation to Spainfor educational exchanges, during which he signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the University ofACoruña and Universidad Europea de Madrid, and met with officials at the Chinese Embassy in Spain. Thedelegationconsisted ofrepresentatives fromthe Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Information Engineering, Microelectronics and Data Science, and theInternational AffairsOffice.

At the University ofACoruña, the delegation met with President Ricardo José Cao Abadand Vice Rector for Degrees and Internationalization MoisésCanleLópez. They also held discussions with the deans of the Schools of Engineering, Nautical and Marine Engineering, and Computer Science.The talks focused on joint talent cultivation and research collaboration in fieldssuch as mechanical manufacturing, automation, and data science,leading to a consensus on launching cooperative education programs, clarifying application procedures and timelines, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). During the visit, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the university’s internationalprograms,toured the School of Computer Science and the Information and Communications Technology Research Center, andconducted research onthe university’sexperimentalteaching facilities and talent development models.

At Universidad Europea de Madrid, the delegation met with Luis Calandre Burgueros, Director of the Creative Campus and Dean of the School of Design and Creative Technologies, and ZhuDi, Head of Asia Programs. They visited the campus’s specialized laboratories, teaching venues, and creative practice platforms. The two sides exchangedviews on integratedundergraduate-postgraduate education, dual-degree cooperation, faculty and student exchanges, curriculum articulation, and joint research. They agreed on a phased cooperation roadmap and signed an MOU outlining the next steps.

At the Chinese Embassy in Spain, the delegation held talks with Education Counselor Hou Yongfeng. They briefed the Counselor on the university’s progress in cooperative education with Spanish institutions and receivedprofessionalpolicy guidance onChina-Spanish educational exchanges.Their in-depth discussions covereddeepeninguniversity partnerships, innovating talent development models, and industry-university collaboration in talent cultivation. They also shared ideas onthe cooperation environment in Spain, establishing long-term mechanisms for cultural exchanges, and building industry-university-research integrated research platforms.

This targeted visit to two distinctive Spanish universities, combined with the professional policy guidance obtained from the Chinese Embassy, has further expanded the university's international cooperation network in Europe. It provides strong support for deepening interdisciplinary academic exchanges and advancing the development of globally competent talents.
